So nice to watch your update and see how you are pressing on in your journey. Sharing your caregiving journey with Theresa with so many thru your channel has been a true blessing. I'm so pleased to see more people talking about their dementia experience now. I think it helps anyone who is touched by this disease. John is doing a great job conveying his journey with Heather and seems to have a true caring heart like you always have. Continued prayers for you as you move forward. 💞🙏

I can identify. Took full time caregiving to mother 3 years 24/7. Exhausting. Depleting. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done! Congrats to you ❤for hanging in there. I know how incredibly difficult it is…loss of sleep, loss of any life as you knew it. It was also the best thing I’ve ever done, mind you. I needed to go to a spa, decompress, & rest after she past. I held 7 jobs that first year…I’d find myself just crying off & on uncontrollably. So just keep getting jobs …any jobs to keep me afloat. Took a long time. My brother had her home so I slept in my Miata for a time…its a small car and not comfy but I made due. For Christmas that year other employees gave me gifts…I had no place to put them. I was homeless. There’s no place for homeless women in SW Florida here…only a men’s mission. So o had to find safe places to park my car to sleep overnight. Eventually, I got into public low income housing. Eventually a juicer (it saved me) physically . Eventually I learned to get some sun, got control at the job emotionally, and settled in (without furniture. ) I WAS A GREAT CAREGIVER …BUT MY MOTHER WAS ALSO MY GREATEST FRIEND. I WISH FOR YOU ONLU THE BEST LIFE. YOU DESERVE IT. ❤

When I was 10 or 11 we were caring for my great Aunt in our home. She was the most loving, caring woman I have ever known..when the end was near she looked into my eyes and said "I hate you" I just want you to die..she said it almost demonically, it broke my heart . My mom said it was not her,but I can still see the rage & hatred that was in her eyes..I pray to the lord if I ever head that direction, give me the wherewithal to find the shortest pier,so I can take a long walk...

Thumbs 👍🏻 up for you! You look good, I am happy you are moving on with your life; travalling, decorating the house, going outdoors 😊 You are a strong man, a big cuddle for you and the cats 🐈. I just turned 55 on September the fourth this week. I also live alone after my divorce at 2018. But I also have a sweet old Pussycat 🐈‍⬛ a little female and before her I had a huge male cat 🐈 orange and white. I always loved cats, grew up in a house with many cats but my ex man never let me have one. And the cats are so sweet, cuddle buddies and they feel and see how you are doing. 😊❤ I live in the Netherlands. My father sadly passed away after he got Alzheimer’s too, in September 2011, he was 72 years old and he got sick in 2007. 😢I still miss him. He loved nature and cats too. 💐

I can see this video is old and that she's passed, I'm sorry for your loss, it must've been really hard to go through this kind of thing. Out of curiosity what was her lifestyle like in the years before the diagnosis? Did she eat a lot of processed foods? Did she eat a lot of fruit and veg to get essential nutrients like magnesium, vitamins, polyphenols? Did she exercise much? Did she have a social network? This is such a terrifying disease. You are a freaking awesome person for supporting her no matter what.

Hi Trey, I am a completely random person who found your channel today. Your wife, Theresa, was a lovely lady and I am so sorry that she experienced Alzheimer's disease at such a young age. I have been reflecting on your channel and experiences all day. It is an incredibly cruel and unjust condition, awful in how it takes the identity of a person away. Having said this, I was very moved by how you supported her over this time, when she was at her most vulnerable. The dignity, support and compassion you provided her reminds me of all the good in humanity and shows what an incredible husband you were (love in sickness and in health). We all know the grief from losing somone you love so much never goes away forever, but I do hope you realise that you were a loving, tender, supportive and understanding husband. Thersa could have wished for no-one better. All of us here know this and just hope you do. Thank you for showing me the best in people and I wish you all the very best. Take care.

My mom started showing very mild memory signs when she was 80. She was diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment at least five years later. She stopped driving around 85. A decision she made on her own. She definitely told my dad for the next four years, where to turn and where to go. My dad was worn out as a caregiver by the time they were 87. He passed a few days before his 90th birthday this year. We sold the Florida house and moved my mom up north to an assisted living facility. She actually likes her apartment. She will be 90 in November. Sometimes she thinks my dad is there, but not often. She doesn’t cook, clean, do laundry, write letters or send cards anymore. She can still make phone calls, but has had a few mishaps. She goes to lunch and dinner late. Needs someone to give her medication. When she has eczema, she will tell me her forehead is itchy, and I have to let the nurse know to put cream on the spot. She can not remember to tell the nurse she is itching, or not feeling well. I’m so blessed to have her Alzheimer’s go so slowly and start so late in life. She is not in memory care yet. We hope we can keep her out of there as long as possible. I hope you get a new friend to do activities with.

Hello, first time here. I don’t know if it’s appropriate to share of my experience with my Australian Cattle dog Blue Heeler, Mattie. I experience what dementia was like. The first sign was at Home Depot when she walked away, I just watched her and Mattie came to a stop and didn’t know where she was. The second time I was at home and she let a loud noise and collapsed, it’s very common that they loose control of their bowels, so peed on herself, and it happened again. After that, It declined so fast, I will find her under my desk crying not to know what to do, or she will be in the backyard crying at 2 am, not knowing what to do . Mattie, didn’t know where she was, I lay plastic and dog pads everywhere because she just couldn’t get up. It was an experience how this disease gets a hold of somebody life, the last few months, I did not sleep , I was taking care of Mattie. What I saw, Mattie was in her on world, she will wag herself tail sometimes when she saw me . Mattie was a rescue, the owner left to North Carolina and did not take her with him. Mattie was 11 years when she came home, I gave her 4 more years. I miss her, I will Mattie when I cross the rainbow. Please be patient when someone, a friend, a relative, they depend on you, they were there for you, now be there for them.❤❤❤❤❤

Trey, thank you. I've been looking around the last few days to see if you have an update. We recently lose our dog, very traumatic, and picked up his ashes the day of Tropical Storm Debbie. Our house and yard flooded that day and we tried to get out. Belcher Rd flooded here and cars were floating by. I've never seen anything like it. I live close to Belcher in Largo. We are still trying to make repairs and doing our best. I thought of you during this mess, hope you all were ok. I would love to do the walk in St Pete but I am disabled. I lost my mom to the disease almost 2 years ago and still feel the pain of it. It's surprising how it touches so many lives. We have been trying to move in to Pasco County but haven't sold our place yet. We continue to head 5 miles down the road to the beach tho. I love that you can do things now that you can honor Teresa with. Please take care of yourself and know we care about you. This is the most disgusting disease to go through.

Hi Marly - Thanks so much for sharing and I am so sorry for the recent loss of your dog as well as mom. I hope you are able to sell your home and get settled in Pasco soon. Here in Pinellas Park, I faired pretty good through TS Debbie. No real flooding issues in my neighborhood, I'm in Zone D. Lately though, as you know, we are getting tons of rain every day and the ground is saturated. If we get another TS or Hurricane, I think we all will have some serious flood issues. Please take care of yourself and know that I will be walking for all those impacted by this disease, including your family on Oct. 5th.
